Okay, so this doesn't really belong in this gallery, but until I draw a little more I don't have anywhere else to put it.
Like My Cow, this is a picture I completed in high school. I drew it from a photograph of my little sister Emily. She was about seven at the time. I took the picture on Christmas Eve, which is why she has a bow on her head. There is no background because, to be honest, I find drawing backgrounds incredibly boring. My Cow, which I drew at around the same time, doesn't really have a background either. Even now when I draw backgrounds it's an exercise in force of will.
While I was drawing this picture, I kept thinking about the fashion details designers put on clothes for little kids: the teardrop window below her shirt collar, the embroidery around the hem of her pants. It was strange, seeing my sister already embellished so at seven. (I never had much sense for fashion details myself.)
Here's Emily at 13 with the original. I'll try to add the photo I drew it from if I can find it.
