I drew this, like the picture of my sister Emily, while I was a junior or senior in high school. We were asked by my wonderful art teacher, Mr. McElfresh, to create an "issue piece," and this is what evolved. I drew the cow from an issue of National Geographic and brought each of the pieces of the hamburger in to class to draw from the real thing. (I had to finish the onion in a hurry because after a day or two it started to smell.)
While I drew, I mentally hummed "my cow is in a hamburger, hamburger, hamburger" on loop. For this reason, I always think of this piece as "my cow." I still hear this tune when I look at it and find that a little worrisome. At least I could have developed a second verse.
My cow is currently hanging in my kitchen. Although it was meant to be a vegetarian statement, someone once suggested that it be used to advertise hamburgers as 100% beef.
